The course will be run over 1 year, broken down into 3 and 2 hour sessions, covering the required 60 hours. it is mainly practical with about 25% written.This written work uses worksheets and booklets.
The course is taught by 2 staff with over 30 years experience in teaching and/or the outdoors. The course is delivered in a similar way to how adult courses would be run to give the students a feel for the industry. Therefore a high level of maturity and a good attitude will be neccessary.
The course will give students the oppertunity to learn things about themselves and others and give them the confidence and ability to improve on their communication and leadership skills while teaching others within the team
Progression would include moving on to the level 2 course provided by colleges in the area. During the course there will be opportunities to use the new skills gained by helping out on school camps and attending work experience at outdoor centers in the area.
This course would suit someone looking at job prospects in the outdoor industry.
